Hair Cut | July 2015

It's always around this time of year that I get the itch to cut my hair shorter. I'm transitioning to texlaxed (more info here) and I said at the beginning of the year that I'd keep my transition long-term and refrain from major chops to keep some of the length. In reality it's been really hard to not cut my hair and over the past few months I've chopped off whole sections (both the front and back parts of my hair are now fully texlaxed). I then tried to distract myself from cutting altogether by experimenting with lace wigs which worked really well, but the last couple of months without the wigs has made the desire to speed up my transition overwhelming.

So the inevitable happened. I started by cutting 2 inches in June and I cut another 3 inches last week. My hair was the longest it's been (ever) but I just couldn't deal with the stringy ends anymore so they had to go. My hair is now about bra strap length stretched and it hasn't been this length since my last major chop in June 2014.

I couldn't be more excited about being closer to ending my transition and my daily buns have the same amount of volume so I don't feel as sad to lose the length as I thought I would. Unless I'm wearing my hair down it's not even noticeable that I've cut so much off. I'm tempted to cut off even more but I'm going to make myself wait a little longer so I have more hair to work with. I thought about how long I've actually been transitioning to this texture and going through old blog posts (see here and here) made me realise it's actually only been a year and a half. I guess I just need to be a little more patient and in a few more months I can eventually say I have fully texlaxed hair!

What have you been doing to your hair lately?

  1. Why do you not cutting it if you Want to. I'm probably missing something but if you are itching to cut it, can't you just do so? Sorry if it a stupid question 😊

    1. Hi Lisa, I didn't want to cut it as I thought it would make styling awkward, specifically putting it in a bun x

    2. I see. You have lovely hair though! is that very different from your natural hair. My natural hair Would look like that if it was that length. But i dont have the patience and diligens like you to keep it so neat. Its so fluffy and shiney! Lovely!

    3. Thank you. My natural hair is tighter and more coily, so by texlaxing I avoid a bit of the shrinkage. At the moment I don't do much with my hair other than wear it in a bun which is kind of why I want it a lot longer before I completely chop my ends off x

    1. Thank you Eugenie. I think I'll be doing more twist outs when my hair is fully texlaxed, as the curls/waves always seem to come out much nicer on this portion of my hair. My ends just want to stay straight! x

    1. Thank you! I always used to texlax every 5 months, but I've been trying to see if I could wait longer between touch ups so the results are more uniform (as I find it hard to get the same exact results each time I use a relaxer). I last relaxed my hair November 28th 2014 which makes me 8 months post as of today. I think I'll texlax my hair again before the end of the year x

  7. Hair fullness!!! Love it, I understand not wanting to cut it, it's always hard when you have it out and see the thinner ends. Good luck on the rest of the journey, almost there :) x

  16. I use a keratin treatment every three to four months and my hair grows! I am not very keen on my hair but I do take care of it. I cut it a lot but I have just let it go now and I braid it because it's so humid here. And I do not relax it. I used to relax the ends and edges because it's curly but then realized that it did nothing lol. But that was a few years ago and I just decided to just do my regular thing. Either Dominican blow out or curly or braids.
