Review | Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk

I've been intrigued about the Shea Moisture brand for some time and, after a bit of deliberation, I ended up picking up the Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk (£12.99) from Paks a couple of weeks back.

It is pretty pricey considering it's only 236ml of product and this is the main reason I've been hesitant to try anything by Shea Moisture. I guess my curiosity got the better of me and I thought I'd at least try one product by the brand as I always see rave reviews. I'm happy to report the Curl & Style Milk did not disappoint, I absolutely love the product.

The main thing I was impressed with was the ingredients list and this helped me justify to myself how much this product costs. As well as Shea Butter, Coconut Oil and Hibiscus Flower Extract, this product contains, Silk Proteins, Neem Oil, Carrot Oil, Honeysuckle and Vitamin E. It smells absolutely heavenly (very sweet, but thankfully not sickly) and I've had so many compliments on the scent.

I usually prefer milky products as my hair can't take much product at all. The product consistency is not what I expected, it's more like a yoghurt texture than milk. However, it's still light and doesn't weigh my hair down even though I've been really heavy-handed with this product. I've got through half a bottle already and I've only had the product about 3 weeks!

The product works so well at keeping my hair so soft and moisturised that I think I would repurchase this again. I just wish the bottle was a bit bigger for the price. I'll be using the other half a lot more sparingly to make this product last as long as possible.

Have you tried anything by Shea Moisture?

Lesley x

  1. I've been umming and ahh-ing about whether to buy some products from Shea Moisture too but always been put off by the price like you have... Did it help with frizz at all as that is my biggest enemy right now haha

    1. Hi Saadiya, my hair hasn't been frizzy whilst using this so I think it's worked pretty well but I think they have a few other products that are actually marketed as anti-frizz like the Hold & Shine Moisture Mist x

  2. I have the Curl Enhancing Smoothie. Used it 2 or 3 times. Not enough to really know how I feel about it

  3. The scent is too strong for me. It does work great but it is too fragrant for me. I love the deep conditioner mask from Shea Moisture

  4. Hi Lesley!
It is true that Shea Moisture products are not the cheapest but their composition is really good.. I have the raw shea butter shampoo and the anti breakage mask but I haven't fell in love with them.. When it comes to moisturising my hair, I'd rather go for something very thick in consistency such as a butter.. Milks don't do the job on my hair..

  6. Shea Moisture products tend to be expensive here in the Caribbean as well, I bought this one out of curiosity once at Walgreens, and I actually like it, a little goes a long way. It works best for me when I'm air-drying my hair and its about 50% damp, it really helps to make my hair feel smooth. Oh and I like the smell :-D

    1. I definitely need to use mine more liberally! I use mine mostly on damp-ish hair too, it definitely seems to work better that way x

  8. I do love Shea moisture products - I know some people are in two minds about it, but my hair just seems to drink it up! I did a review about it on my blog last year http://www.nerdabouttown.com/2013/08/review-shea-moisture-hair-care.html with some of their other products and I love how multi purpose their ingredients are - good post!!

  11. I have some Shea Moisture in my stash and need to use it. I tried something Shea Moisture a while ago, it was in a yellowish package. Can't remember the name. It was strongly scented. I never repurchased.

  12. I've tried Shea Moisture before, it's hair masque and I guess I did not use it right as my hair did not like it much. I see a large variety at my local target so I may have to revisit this brand as I've heard so many great things since.

  14. I just got really interested in the Shea moisture line a few months ago. I currently have the Curl enhancing Smoothie which I use for my braidout. I leaves my hair very soft. My next buy is the Yucca and Aloe milk in addition to the Yucca thickening shampoo which a lot of people rave about it adding volume to their hair.

  15. The price range of the product line is what discourages me in buying it. This product sounds worth it.

  16. I love this product too and a lot of shea moisture 's product. It's an expensive brand but I can't stay away of raw shea butter shampoo and yucca & baobab thickening shampoo. This is my stample. I also use deep cleasing shampoo.
